Last month, a Federal Judge in Topeka, Kansas issued a temporary restraining order that prevented an abortion facility licensing law from going into effect, which would add to the significant pile of statewide pro-life legislation sweeping the nation. In addition to mandating that abortionists must have hospital privileges within 30 miles of their clinics, the law contains a severability clause, which means that all portions of the law that have no Constitutional challenge can remain in effect while other, contested parts are litigated. That means that any challenges to the law won’t hinder its ability to save lives until a final ruling.
This law would be a huge boost to enhancing pro-life legislation, but unfortunately, self-proclaimed “pro-life” Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt has refused to file the one-page brief, clearly shoving the wellbeing of children, women and families in his state aside.
My close friend and President of Operation Rescue, Troy Newman, hit the nail on the head when he said that Schmidt’s carelessness regarding a law that would very clearly save lives is unconstitutional, irresponsible and surprising coming from an administration that claims to be pro-life.
Operation Rescue is currently weighing whether or not to file an ethics complaint against Schmidt, but pro-lifers across the nation can help too.
Please call Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s Deputy Chief of Staff Jeff Wagaman and tell him that choosing not to file this law will ban even constitutional provisions of it from being effective! This law can save lives – Derek Schmidt’s negligence to his constituents, born and pre-born, should not go unnoticed.
We can’t stop here – our voices can convince Attorney General Derek Schmidt to file this legislation, inflicting stricter regulations that could, ultimately, shut down the only 2 remaining abortion facilities in Kansas!
Call or email Attorney General Schmidt’s office today and tell him to take responsibility for protecting his constituents!
