The mainstream media is doing what they do best, carrying water for the abortion industry by lying about a recently ended abortion pill reversal study.
A little context: In the Spring, researchers started to study the efficacy of abortion pill reversal, by recruiting women who wanted to have an abortion (there are numerous ethical issues here, of course).
The study ended early after several women had to be taken to the ER with heavy bleeding. Those facts are not in dispute. But here’s where the mainstream media continues their complicity in promoting a culture of death and being a propaganda machine for the abortion industry, by lying about what really happened.
NPR writes, “The researchers decided the risk to women of participation was too great to continue with the study. The study was unable to show what, if any, effectiveness progesterone has in reversing a medical abortion. The results raise concerns about the safety of using mifepristone without taking misoprostol, the second step in the medication-based abortion regimen.”
Mother Jones reported, “Three of the women had to be taken to the hospital after severe vaginal bleeding occurred. After the third hospitalization, the researchers ended the study and concluded that ‘patients in early pregnancy who use only mifepristone may be at high risk of significant hemorrhage.’ In comparison, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists lists abortion as a low-risk surgery, with a complication rate of less than 1 percent.
Although researchers could not determine whether giving patients progesterone is an effective method of reversing abortions, the results are troubling in light of recent pushes to include abortion reversal in abortion counseling.”
Wow. So it sounds like trying abortion pill reversal is actually dangerous?
Oops, nope, that’s not what happened. As Vice admits in an article, “But the study only enrolled 12 women before three of the patients started bleeding from their vaginas so severely they had to be taken to the ER in ambulances. One woman even needed a blood transfusion. Of those women, one had taken progesterone.”
Oh. So only one of the women who was sent to the ER bleeding had actually tried to initiate abortion pill reversal. The others had taken the first drug of the abortion drug regimen.
Wait, doesn’t that mean that abortion drugs, not abortion pill reversal, is dangerous? Yes, yes it does. But when you work for the abortion industry are a reporter, you can write the narrative the way that you want, that fits your preconceived beliefs.
Pro-life leaders have pointed out the flawed narrative, but only some media outlets, mainly right-leaning, have paid attention.
Kristan Hawkins noted to Fox News, “Biased media keeps talking about the pain of these procedures without noting that it was the abortion drugs that were the cause of this horror, not the solution.”
Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life activist stated, “The only conclusion this supposed study from the abortion industry is that completing a medical abortion with mifepristone can be painful, scary and possibly dangerous for the woman.”
You can read the statement by a group of pro-life OB/GYNs here.
