Pro-Life Future Campaign Sees Successful Launch in Denver: We’re Eradicating Abortion One City At a Time

Students for Life of America’s new Pro-Life Future Campaign is working to change hearts and minds about abortion, one city at a time. A key feature of the campaign is a monthly community door-knocking mobilization in the nineteen cities where the campaign is currently active. By alerting our neighbors to the dangers of the abortion industry and raising awareness about non-violent abortion alternatives, our goal is to reduce the abortion rate in each campaign location directly. One of the cities where we’re working to build a culture of life is Denver, Colorado – one of the states that allows abortion through all

U.S. Senators Speak on Behalf of SAVE Act; Democrats Won’t Take the Step to Protect Women

On September 22, pro-life senators spoke to protect preborn children and their mothers from the dangers of chemical abortion. The legislation in question is S.3072, the Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms and Babies Act of 2019, which will regulate Mifeprex from being available through the mail or telemedicine. The legislation is enthusiastically supported by Students for Life and is a top legislative priority.

The bill’s sponsor, Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi, along with Republican Senators Mike Lee of Utah, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, and Mike Braun of Indiana spoke in support of the legislation. When Hyde-Smith requested unanimous consent, Democratic Senator Patty Murray of Washington objected.

Senator Hyde-Smith spoke Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMs,) which “work to mitigate the risk posed by this drug to women,” calling them “simple common sense rules,” which allows women “to be fully informed” of side-effects and being “provided informed consent.” These FDA regulations would be codified into law.

Chemical abortions made up 39 percent of abortion procedures in 2017, according to the Guttmacher Institute. The rise in this method has led to an increase in abortion rates in the United States, according to statistics for 2016 recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang in Maryland, appointed by President Barack Obama, ruled FDA regulations necessitating an in-person visits create a “substantial obstacle.”

Activist judges, many of them appointed by pro-abortion Democrats, protect the abortion industry’s bottom line, taking advantage of the pandemic to do so.

Senator Bill Cassidy was a medical doctor. On a doctor’s role to save lives, Cassidy explained chemical abortions “don’t do any of that,” describing risks as “severe… particularly when the mother has this without supervision by a healthcare provider.” Cassidy aptly put that “the total absence of medical support is the total absence of care and using potentially dangerous chemicals without medical support can lead to the absence of health.” He also issued a call to Americans, that if they “care about a woman’s health, they should be concerned when such procedures are allowed.”

But abortion advocates will not listen, refusing to consider any merits of this bill with life-saving health regulations. Senator Murray claimed life-saving regulations “are not based on evidence, or patient’s best interest. This bill is not about science, or healthcare, or what’s best for women across the nation.” Despite Senator Cassidy’s support for the bill, Murray claimed such legislation is “an effort to ignore the science and medical professionals…”

Senator Lee dismissed concerns that such legislation would violate Roe v. Wade. He pointed out “that is manifestly not within the scope within this legislation, nor is it the place of any senator to purport to know the subjective motivation behind Senator Hyde-Smith’s legislation here.” Lee passionately told his pro-abortion colleagues “you can feel however you want about Roe v. Wade, this isn’t it,” calling it “a convenient excuse to not have to deal with something, something real, something that has to do with the lives, and the health, and the well-being of women…” He also challenged anti-science claims. “I’d ask on what planet does science back the idea that we should remove the REMs restrictions from this supposed, so-called form of healthcare, a form of healthcare, that as I mentioned a few moments ago, has resulted in thousands upon thousands of complications in the two decades that it’s been on the market. On what planet can one contend that one can’t support this legislation without being opposed to science?”

When it comes to the procedure, a complete, successful chemical abortion will result in the death of a preborn child, and may do so for the mother as well. That a woman doesn’t have confirm she’s pregnant, how far along she is in her pregnancy, if she has an ectopic pregnancy, or is tested for being Rh-negative, as recommended by the FDA, makes the method even more inherently dangerous.

The first step is to Mifepristone, which blocks progesterone and thus kills the preborn child by cutting off nutrients from the mother’s body to sustain the pregnancy. A day or two later, the woman will take Misoprostol which causes severe cramping, contractions and bleeding to expel the dead baby.

The woman has her dead child at home, with no supervision, unless she follows. She is usually sitting on the toilet, and may even see the child’s features in the pregnancy sac.

Pro-abortion sources, including the Guttmacher Institute underscore the side-effects and dangers of this method, which involve abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, fever/chills, and headaches. The bleeding may last for weeks after the abortion.

Incomplete abortions happen 5 percent of the time, which can lead to death from infection of remaining fetal parts or tissue not properly removed. A deadly infection can also occur if a woman undergoes a chemical abortion too late. Death can also come from an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy. It cannot be emphasized enough that such causes of preventable deaths could be detected by an in-person visit.

According to a medical journal in MedGenMed, “the risk of death appears to be 10 times greater with medical abortion (chemical abortion) than with surgical abortion.”

A woman may end up losing subsequent pregnancies if her antibodies are not dealt with immediately, should it be discovered she is Rh-negative. Again, this is a preventable long-term detrimental effect. Complications from this method may also necessitate a hysterectomy, thus making a woman infertile.

This is Chemical Abortion website outlines the above facts with citations aincludes statements from a woman who was misled about this harrowing, dangerous procedure she underwent. There is also information about abortion pill reversal.

Students for Life will be participating in a tweet fest to raise awareness about this method as well as advocate for the SAVE Moms and Babies Act. Participants are encouraged to include #AbortionPillKills in their tweets.
