Its “Off-Campus Wellness Resources” lists two Planned Parenthood locations as a resource as a low-cost medical option. It’s unclear why they need to even include Planned Parenthood on the list, as the rest of the options appear to be neutral options, such as hospitals and services provided by Catholic Charities.
Students for Life Action, the C4 arm of Students for Life of America, has been reaching out to Catholic and Christian schools and asking them to remove Planned Parenthood as a resource, successfully getting Seattle University to remove Planned Parenthood.
Katie Lodjic, national field director for Students for Life Action, asked Edgewood College on October 2nd to remove Planned Parenthood as a resource, but to no avail. A follow-up e-mail on October 21st was also left unanswered. You can read the full letter here: Edgewood Letter final.
The issue of Edgewood College promoting Planned Parenthood is not new. A Chronicle of Higher Education article in 2011 notes that the Cardinal Newman Society requested Edgewood College remove references to Planned Parenthood.
The College of St. Rose, a Catholic college in New York, refuses to remove Planned Parenthood from its website. The librarian at the university said the college is a “purely secular institution” and said that “abortion is healthcare.” The university said he wasn’t speaking on their behalf, but hasn’t responded to our request to remove Planned Parenthood as a resource, nor clarify if they are a secular institution or not.
