Choosing Life: First-Round NFL Draft Pick Micah Parsons Reveals He Was Almost Aborted

Blog written by Samantha Kamman. The possibility of hardship cannot revoke one’s right to life, and Micah Parsons is proof of that. The 21-year-old is a linebacker for the Penn State Nittany Lions but, according to PennLive, the athlete is about to become a first-round draft pick for the National Football League. No doubt, the opportunity to sign a pro football contract is exciting, but it almost wasn’t possible. Believe it or not, the promising young athlete was almost never born, according to a pre-NFL draft interview with the potential star at PennLive. “It’s actually a crazy story,” he said.

Kick Off Your Summer with a “Pro-Life Challenge”

Hurry! The 2020 TALK Challenge is coming to a close and there is still time to sign up here.

At the beginning of this school year (back when things were normal), we embarked on a challenge to have 250,000 conversations about abortion this year. This goal, called the T.A.L.K. Challenge, had to move digital when coronavirus struck in March. But students are still saving lives and changing minds even while quarantined.

June 30th is the LAST DAY students can log online conversations they’ve had since August 1st, 2019. Winners of the Regional Competition, earning a trip for three to the National March in Washington and Pro-Life Summit or a fall speaker grant, will be announced on July 1st. E-gift cards will be awarded via email throughout the month of June to individuals and group leaders: $10 Amazon dollars for every 50 conversations! Plus this June only, the students logging the most conversations will SFLA shop gift cards: $100 for first place, $75 for second, and $50 for third!

Despite current social setbacks and most schools being out of session, there ARE ways to rake in the conversations now. We’ve created a special event to finish this pro-life challenge with a bang. New to the TALK Challenge? Don’t worry, the playing field has been leveled for individual prizes. You have just as much of a chance to win the SFLA shop gift cards and the Amazon gift cards as students who have been participating all year long.

The T.A.L.K. June Final Countdown Challenge

As part of the Final Challenge, we will task you with a new action each week. We’ll make it easy and provide resources and help along the way! Here’s a preview of what’s to come:

Week 1 (Week of June 1st)

Just share a social media post! Downloadable graphics for Instagram and Facebook are available on Students for Life HQ in the Complete Resource Library, or you can simply hit share on Facebook. After that, respond to commenters.

Week 2 (Week of June 7th)

We will host an online event called Coffee and Conversations for you to jump into Zoom breakout rooms with SFLA staff, hang out with peers, and chat with abortion supporters on various online platforms. We will start with a brief 15-minute overview of how and where to have the best social media conversations, then go online for an hour together. If you’d like to prepare with a longer social media training, visit Students for Life HQ and watch Josh Brahm’s Social Media video in the Educate and Recruit Track. (Sign up coming soon!) No mask required!

Week 3 (Week of June 14th)

Now, let’s get political! Post or talk to friends or family about the upcoming election, voting pro-life, defunding Planned Parenthood, and/or abortion extremism. These conversations are more important than ever to start having NOW. The future of the Pro-Life Movement depends heavily on the outcomes of the upcoming elections. We can’t shy away from this!

Week 4 (Week of June 21st)

Make a difference in your community. Try doing one of the following: chalk in a public place, pray or sidewalk counsel at the local abortion facility, fundraise for a Pregnancy Help Organization, or watch a pro-life movie with a friend or family member who isn’t fully pro-life. Don’t forget to share about it online!

To sign up for T.A.L.K. now and log conversations by June 30th, register at www.Talk.StudentsforLifeHQ.com.

What Counts as a Conversation?

A conversation is at least four back and forths. That may sound like a lot, but it’s as easy as…

1) you post a graphic
2) someone not fully pro-life comments
3) you address their comment
4) they respond.
