Illinois Should Keep Parental Notification Laws In Place

A February 7 editorial by the Chicago Sun Times Editorial Board argues that Parental Notification endangers minor women in abusive homes. It is a true and sad reality that some pregnant minors come from difficult and abusive homes. But using the struggles of these young women to argue for abortions without parental notification is irresponsible and uninformed. The reality is that Parental Notification is a safety protection for minor women. The piece glaringly omits the fact that rapists — who are sometimes family members — use abortion to destroy the evidence of and continue their sexual crimes. In fact, a shockingly large percentage of pregnant minors are impregnated

Resources for Historically Black College or University (HBCU) Groups

Since the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decision legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy in 1973, abortion has killed an estimated 20 million Black babies— more than the entire American Black population of 1960. Do you want to see change in the Black community? From our music, faith, food, colors, entertainment, and family, Black culture has always had a history of celebrating life. Somewhere along the way, we bought into a lie that we need abortion to succeed, and this has taken root in our community. Now is the time to spark life–affirming changes to your Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Let us go back to celebrating Black life. It can start with you.

The steps to starting an officially recognized student group at an HBCU campus is the same as other campuses, and the step-by-step instructions can be found here. The difference when you start a Students for Life group at an HBCU Campus is that you are provided with special and personalized mentorship from Students for Life of America’s (SFLA)  Minority Outreach Coordinator, Toni McFadden, in addition to  access to your SFLA Regional Coordinator.

Next Steps:

  • Contact Toni McFadden, SFLA Minority Outreach and Healthy Relationships Director by clicking the “Email Me” button below.
  • Learn about abortion and the abortion industry, including how the abortion industry impacts Black lives.
  • Create an online profile at Students for Life HQ, where you can receive free online trainings, resources, and materials to use on campus.

My name is Toni McFadden, and I am the Students for Life Minority Outreach and Healthy Relationships Director. I would love the opportunity to connect with you about how to change your campus to one that will Celebrate Black Life.  I am also available to come and speak on your campus to have a real, honest conversation about the history and the effects of abortion on the Black community.

What is the Number 1 Killer of the Black Community?

Abortion.

Abortion is the number one killer of black lives in the United States. More than HIV. More than diabetes. More than heart disease. More than cancer. Abortion snuffs out more black lives than all other causes of death, combined (according to the CDC). Using statistics from 2008 (because that is the most recent year available which provides nationwide abortion stats), there were 317,547 abortions in the black community. According to pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, this number represents 30% (the percentage of black abortions) of the nation’s 1,058,490 abortions in 2011. All other causes of death amounted to 286,797.

True or False: Black Women are 5x More Likely to Have an Abortion.

True.

Black Women have been a target of the abortion industry from the beginning. Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, was a known eugenicist who called Black people "weeds." We will always stand against racist organizations, and promote holistic and life-giving healthcare for Black women."

How Many Black Babies Die From Abortion Every Day in America?

360.

This is a tragedy. Imagine the caskets of 360 babies every. single. day. Would that change our generation to jump into action?

How Many Planned Parenthood's are Located in Minority Neighborhoods?

79%

This is strategic. 79% of its surgical abortion facilities are located within walking distance of African American or Hispanic/Latino neighborhoods.
